It all starts with A Heart of Gold: The Greatest Gift, a beloved interactive storybook built around five core leadership values: Unconditional Love, Tenacity, Positivity, Loyalty, and a Sense of Humor. When teachers brought the book into their classrooms, they saw how naturally students connected with it, and they asked for more ways to engage. What grew from that request became the Heart of Gold School Curriculum, a complete K–5 social-emotional learning and leadership program that turns those values into everyday practices that strengthen classrooms, support teachers, and help students shine at school, at home, and in life.

Heart of Gold for Kids was founded by mother–daughter duo Sharon Brown and Heather Hough, whose shared passion for nurturing children’s confidence, character, and sense of belonging is woven into everything they create.
Sharon brings more than 20 years of experience serving children and families through Birthday Blessings, the nonprofit she founded to celebrate children in foster care and those experiencing hardship. A woman of faith and mother of three, Sharon’s journey, including an unexpected heart transplant, deepened her belief that time is precious and meant to be used with purpose. Her work is guided by the conviction that every child deserves to feel celebrated, seen, and valued.
Heather’s background reflects a hands-on, experience-driven approach to learning. She has taught children in a variety of settings, including yoga, ecology, and cooking classes, and has volunteered in orphanages in Nicaragua, Haiti, and Guatemala. These experiences shaped her belief in the power of curiosity, connection, and kindness, and in how even small, intentional moments can create meaningful ripple effects in a child’s life.
Together, Sharon and Heather bring heart-centered leadership, real-world experience, and a sacredness for childhood into their work. Today, Heart of Gold for Kids remains a small, growing business led by a mother and daughter who believe in leading with integrity, showing up with purpose, and helping children discover the strengths already inside them.
